Halloween Hoppin' on Saturday!

Hola people, hope you all had a great and eventful Pre Haloween weekend.  I know a lot of you guys went out to some cool parties to celebrate with friends and get dressed up like a weirdo, and I was no exception.  Halloween is easily my favorite holiday. There is just something about embarrassing yourself with the support of others embarrassing themselves at the time that unifies the masses.  I stepped out with some of my friends and had a blast.  I laughed alot, saw some awesome costumes and I got to meet some childhood hero's and took whole bunch of pictures.

First off, the spirit of my Uncle Willis, the OG  from Brownsville BK took over my body. He was originally the fourth member of Run DMC but they were hating on him so he went solo and had a awesome rap career in Thailand.  He even won two Mammy's ( the Malaysian Grammy)

I got linked up my my man Nasty Nate (leader of the south side cartel who just escaped from prison and didn't think it would be a good idea to change his shirt and blend in so he just tucked it in), and that guy in the nun mask with the pony tail who talked me to death.
We set out on a mission, but we had god on our side which is evident by the blessing Jesus (Slick Nick) gave us right before we walked out the door.

 Shouts out to Mister (Jake the Snake) and Misses Potato head who stopped by for a cocktail and a bong hit!

Then we headed off to fight crime. On the way i ran into a Caped crusader in a spandex one piece, cat woman and the Chic from Fila'.  I kept think he was saying Philly........he had a strong accent. lol
I Called in backup. They sent there most decorated officers.
So we busted up in there, and I seduced the evil queen! That was Easy.... (staples button)

Helped the officers Apprehend this guy who i never liked from earlier ( just joking) and defeated the Devil (actually i think we had Vodka to thank for that)

 Mission Accomplished
Now we had a new mission. Bar NONE in LES NYC.
I Linked up with old Homies from my child hood days in Brooklyn. My boy Gumby, and Fozi Bear and Gonzo were in the house. Spock also stopped by to say what's good.

This Week is NO STARCH WEEK!!!

Yes you read correctly.  This week is NO STARCH WEEK.  The week you refrain from all starches no matter what.  You will be energized and drop a few pounds of water weight in the process.  All you will eat during this week is Lean Protein, vegetables and Fruits and Nothing else. Emphasis on the protein to prevent yourself from burning through you meals too fast. My ratio is %70 protein, %15 vegetables %15 Fruits

 Just do this for one week and tell me how much better you feel. Be honest with yourself !!!! You eat badly! If your diet doesn't support your goal you're running in place and won't get anywhere quickly. Don't cheat yourself by thinking eating well means a restricted diet, it doesn't. It just means portion control and putting in practice a basic principal of weight management. Burn more calories than you eat. That's all!  So if your sitting at a desk all day, your calorie requirement is much less and every mini snickers and half bagel in your desk drawer becomes more than a a lil' snack.

Your breakfast this week is now

Hard Boiled Eggs/Turkey or chicken sausage/bacon/etc....
Apples, Pears, Bananas, Dates ( all High in fiber)

Your lunch.....

Grilled/Steamed  Any lean protein  (Beef, Chicken, Fish etc..)
Mixed vegetables ( broccoli, kale, spinach, garlic, tomatoes,squash,pumpkin, cucumber zucchini etc..)
or just salads. Remember emphasis on the protein!

your Dinner will be......

Stir fried/steamed/grilled Beef/Chicken/Fish
Mixed vegetables ( see above)
Night time no fruits needed unless you work at night or workout late.

Between every meal keep Nuts and dried fruits with you in case you get hungry. A lil organic trail mix from Whole Food or Trader Joe's will be a great snack.  Your goal is to never be too hungry at any point during the day. For Pre-workout snacks have a banana and some nuts or peanut butter and a apple.

And lets not ruin this experiment by adding tons of cheese and creamy sauces on top on everything.  That would make this a moot point.  let's end up feeling better and cleaner by the end of the week than you did at the beginning. Follow me? Hopefully you will see the benefit of this type of diet and decide to ride it's wave for a Lil while. :-)

Fitness Q&A with Max Tapper

Hey guys and gals! I recently received a fitness question from a young lady on a workout plan.  I get these question pretty often but I felt it was a question many people out there are searching for an answer too.  This was all about exercises and programming and I hope this can be an informative little entry for more of you out there.

 I would first like to emphasize the seemingly obvious but often overlooked!  The truth about getting in better shape!  A huge percent of it depends on what you eat and how much you eat. You can spend hours in the gym lifting and burning calories, and then eat it all back in 1/100th of the time. If your diet doesn't support your goal, your wasting your time.

Now on to the Question.......

Hi Max, we met a few months back to the Actors InC workshop in which you were a guest panelist!! I would love your fitness advice. I am currently between 117 and 120 pounds with stats 32-27-34 and I know I could be 32-24-34 or 32-23-33 because I have the build for it. I am currently in commercial print modeling and would like to branch out as a fitness model. Are you open to advising on which exercise I can do to shape up quickly, especially in time for my bday in 1 month! I'm not a big runner but I do it anyways about 2 miles twice/week however I would love to take kickboxing...sorry for the long message and thank you for your time and advice in advance.

Hey Stacey good to hear from you. In all reality there are no special exercises that will get you in shape more than others.  It's the application that counts. I would suggest you do big muscle movements like squats and lunges as well and wind sprints. It's just that bigger movements result in greater joint and muscle integration and are more taxing on the body.

 They burn more calories and affect more parts of your body at the same time. Exercises like pushups, pull-ups, squats and lunges are very low risk at moderate weight and provide great results. Your basically killing a few birds with one stone.

I, personally, am a lover of circuits because they freakin work, and working antagonistic muscles result in more muscular balance and better performance.

So at your next workout try this

-10 min cardio warm up.
-20 kettlebell swing
-20 pushups . never knees on the floor. I'd rather you complete the push up on a rail or edge of a bench to make your body lighter.
-15 pullups assisted pullup machine if needed
-body squat with no weight for 1 minute straight
-walking lunges no weight for 1 minute straight.
-20 crunches. Toe touches bicycles or straight sit ups.
-15 side planks for each side.

If there is a track run a 400 meter lap or jump on the treadmill and start off slow for 30 second then run for 2 minutes at a moderate to challanging pace.

Repeat this whole circuit 2-3 times. Do this workout 3 times a week.
This does not include your required 3 days of cardio. 30 min-1hr. 30 minutes if done as cardio on days your workout, but 45 min to 1hr on non-workout days.

Kickboxing would also be great!  It'sguaranteed to change your body. The only thing i tell everybody to remember is this, the only activity that shapes your body the way you want it to look is weight training. When you use pure athletics to change your body, you body will adapt the posture that is most efficient for producing good results. Basically boxers will have pronated (rounded) shoulder and rounded backs from punching and covering up, and  cyclist will have rounded backs as well from there performance position etc.... So even if you take a kickboxing class make sure you continue to lift with proper form to keep your newly strengthened muscles in proper alignment and with good posture.

Are you a Phoney???


You may or may not know this already, but I am a certified techie and gadget whore. Yup! The type that has Craigslist bookmarked and wastes a portion of every day trading , selling , and buying some sort of electronics.  Basically I'm addicted to novelty.  I like new shit!

I find most of my searches are for new phones. On my list, my phone is probably my number one concern. Its basically the hub of my life.  I truly hate to talk on the phone so I mostly text and email for communication, and most of my social media , scheduling and whatever else pretty much happens on my phone . So for the last 8 months ( 10 years in gadget time) Ive settled on the ultimate phone in the Samsung Galaxy S2. The best phone I had ever had and trust me I've had every phone worthy of the crown.  I had not a reason in the world to change it.  It was lightning quick, did everything with relative ease, was easy to hack and put cooked up Roms on and had a huge screen.  But as fate would have it,  I wanted bigger and better.Wait..... Have you seen the size of my hands??  I thought about the Galaxy S3 but I wasn't too fond of the body shape.  So after a couple of days of Craigslist trolling I sold my GS2 for more that I bought it for a couple months ago and acquired a new Samsung Galaxy Note. Basically the same freakin' phone but much bigger.  I am happy to announce to you all that I am in love! ( John Legend - Tonight comes you ever had.......... I am staring at my phone)

But the real meat (comedy) of the story is........ there were 2 days in between where I didn't have a phone at all and had to just grab an old school clam shell phone to get by.  Man, I realized just how shallow I have become . I swear I didn't even take it out my pocket in public.  I was so embarrassed!  Like who gives a fuck really,  right?  But obviously I did.   If a pretty chick came by, no matter what or who I was texting it was immediately over. Not to mention that old school boop boop boop with every key stroke.  And sometimes you're pressing the button 3 times for one letter.  So a 5 letter word could have up to 15 boooops! Can you imagine a sentence?  Do you know how freaking  annoying that is! LOL. Well,  I am so happy those two days are over.  Plus I had no music for my daily commute. Boooo, a big no no! I blacked out so I probably bit off a couple heads in those 48hrs, but as I said I blacked out and dont remember so I can't be held accountable for it ;-)

 Anyway, it's Kind of crazy but I realized my phone was some sort of status symbol for me. Akin to pulling my Maybach out the driveway when I'm pulling my phone out my pocket to input someones contact or snap a pic.  Do you even bring you camera anywhere now a days?  Hell no!  Just to lug something else around? Nope, not when I got this Swiss Army knife mini computer in my pocket. I guess if I actually had a Maybach I probably wouldn't compare it to whipping a dope phone out my pocket, but who cares. Your in my world right now.......
So where am I going with this......not sure..... I ramble writing. Basically I just wanted to know if your a Phoney too?

I just thought I'd share that tidbit with you.  Step up your phone game lol.
